If you don't trigger a police report, eventually you'll start coming across police patrols. Once you rack up some damage they respond by sending out patrols and the moment one sees you the chase is on. However you can't just cruise around the map without getting in a pursuit.
I understand that it's logical to have them engage you in a pursuit when you do something illegal. NFS MW is such an awesome game, one of my favorites, but this aspect I hated. Does anyone else agree we should be chased for committing crimes around cops? It’s just to weird that they ignore everything (side note: cop cars drive really fast and recklessly when patrolling, they break objects, cut corners, pull drifts and handbrake turns, and ram civilian cars, it’s really Jank) Just for reference: take the MW0’5 cops, you would be reported for illegal activities and police would start to spawn around you but as long as you drove lawfully past them or remained still they wouldn’t engage you. Same at night although if your spotted during a race your heat goes up and even if you escape you’ll be on their wanted list. I am very pleased that cops are now patrolling the streets and stationed on corners, however I find it disappointing that actually performing illegal activities such as speeding, burnouts, donuts, hit and run, property destruction within their vicinity does not trigger pursuits, only beeping your horn or colliding with a cop car begins a pursuit.
